Mr. Yannella graduated from Duke University School of Law in 1990, and he then worked for five years at the Legal Aid Society's Criminal Defense Division in Manhattan. Since 1996, he has been in private practice. He was admitted to the bar in the state of New Jersey in 2000, and he now represents people in criminal cases in New York and New Jersey. Mr. Yannella primarily defends people in federal criminal cases and is a member of the capital case panel in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York. He zealously represents his clients and tailors his approach to the needs of the client. He is skilled at negotiating for dismissals or diversion programs, when possible, or getting charges reduced. Where a jury trial is necessary, he uses his decades of experience to try the case in an effective manner. He got his first acquittal on a narcotics case in New York City Criminal Court in 1991, and more recently, in 2021, he secured an acquittal in a federal double homicide trial. He is aware that trials expose a client to a great degree of risk, and he tries to negotiate dispositions whenever possible.
